Brave Courageous WOMEN Athletes
Definition:
Has a voice - speaks out - stands up for themselves
These women are brave in my mind
I would love to have the ladies below on the show; just putting it out there and hoping the universe listens!
Sue Bird
Suzanne Brigit Bird is an American former professional basketball player who is open about her sexuality, which has helped greatly with visibility. I love that she and Megan were not afraid to show affection on national television. That visibility helps normalize
Megan Rapinoe
Megan Anna Rapinoe is an American former professional soccer player who is very vocal about LGBTQ issues. Megan is BRAVE, and I have no doubt she will be remembered for more than her athletic skills. She is unafraid to speak out, and I love that her visibility has helped other women.
Miley Cyrus
American singer, songwriter, and actress. I doubt she had time for athletics when she was young, but she's on my BRAVE list because the girl has been judged so hard and she still stands strong. I love her boldness. I just hope she lives her life for herself, not her fans, it passes so, so fast.
Billie Jean King
American, former world No. 1 tennis player who won 39 Grand Slam titles: 12 in singles, 16 in doubles, and 11 in mixed doubles. She was the most visible female athlete when I was growing up because of her much publicized win over a male tennis player. Always an advocate for gender equality and social justice, she founded the Women’s Sports Foundation in 1974, is the founder of the Billie Jean King leadership Initiative, the Women’s Tennis Association and the Women’s Sports Foundation. She also has part ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Angel City FC and the Los Angeles Sparks. She was named one of the 100 Most Important Americans of the 20th Century by Life magazine. She was outed as a lesbian by her personal secretary in 1981. The most well known lesbian that I knew of at the time.
Chrishell Stause
American actress, television personality, and real estate agent.
I have no idea if she has anything athletic to share, but this girl is on my BRAVE list because she is amazingly BRAVE! Chrishell, If you ever see this podcast and feel like you have something to say, reach out and continue your quest to share with the world your authentic self.
